The CAPS center offers assistance to students with a number of tutoring options. In order to receive help, students can fill out a Tutor Request Form. Forms are in CAPS or may be downloaded.
All students are eligible for up to 2 hours of free tutoring per week, per course, per semester. Once they fill out a tutor request form, they are required to sign a contract of obligation (see back of tutor request form). Tutoring is not intended for students who want to receive an “A” in their course, but rather for students who are struggling and are at risk of failing a course.
Students learn in a variety of ways and at different speeds. Therefore CAPS offers a number of options for students to receive assistance in their courses.
After filling out a Tutor Request Form, students are assigned a peer tutor. Peer tutoring is an effective method of helping students be successful because peer tutors have taken and passed the course with a ‘B' or better.
CAPS has professional tutoring available for Reading and Writing during certain days, by appointment and posted times.
There are a number of software programs and tutorials available to students via computer. For example:

We have specific hours that tutors are available in CAPS to assist with specific courses. Students need only drop in during those posted hours for help.
Many professors spend some or all of their posted office hours in CAPS to provide access to professional walk-in tutoring. Their service is especially valuable to students and the CAPS staff greatly appreciates their donation of time. You can view professor schedule by clicking here.
Students are encouraged to join or start study groups with classmates. This is often successful in improving students' confidence and skill in a particular class.
All tutoring must be done on campus to protect both tutor and tutee. Remember, tutoring is a service, not a right. While we try to offer tutoring in most courses, tutors will be assigned on an availability basis.
Who can tutor?
Tutors often report that they have been more successful in their own coursework when they help other students, because it helps them keep the material fresh in their minds.
